Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Over the years I have had no other choice but to trust the Lord.  When I graduated from high school I was looking at different colleges to attend.  After an exhaustive search I found the college that I had been searching for.  When I went to visit I was sure this was the place for me.  It was surrounded by mountains and had a beautiful river running right next to the campus.  Everyone was so nice and I was so impressed with everything.  I went to see the Dean of Music and he informed me that they were giving me a full music scholarship.  He also informed me that he selected me to be part of a special singing group that was only given to a select few.  I was very excited and couldn’t wait to start school.  I went home that day feeling so sure this was where God wanted me.  However, a couple weeks before school started I received a call from the admissions office informing me that I was not accepted.  I was told there was a mix up and that I might be able to attend next year.  I was crushed!  I didn’t understand why this was happening.  I thought for sure that God wanted me to attend school there.  WHY?  I went on to attend a college near by and never fully understood why things didn’t work out the way I thought.  Until one night I was watching the news and they were reporting about a plane crash in which several people had died.  I later learned that the people who died were part of a music group from the college that I never attended.  God revealed to me that night why I was not accepted to that college.  That very group that was in the crash was the same music group I would have been part of.

It is not always easy to understand why things happen the way they do.  It is easy to understand what God’s word says about trust.  The word trust in the Hebrew is “beh’takh.”  It means a place of refuge and confidence.  Whatever your trial or circumstance you can rest and take refuge in the Lord.  You can have confidence in Him that he will take care of you.  You may never know why certain things happen the way they do.  What you can know for sure is that God is in control and His wisdom far surpasses ours.  If we will simply rely on God and put our confidence in Him and acknowledge Him with everything, He will certainly make our paths straight.  This does not mean we won’t go through trials or difficulties.  What it means is that we will be successful in God’s sight as we are guided into His kingdom.
