I was watching a football game this past season and watched in amazement as one particular player just kept getting tackled. He would no sooner get the ball and get slammed to the ground. I’ve never seen a player take such a beating and keep getting up and trying to make a play. At the end of the game his face was bleeding, his uniform torn and dirty and he looked like he was in the fight of his life.
Do you ever feel like this player? Do you feel like you just got tackled and knocked down, only to get back up and get hit again and again? Here we find an encouragement to keep on pressing toward the goal to win the prize. It is so easy to focus on our past and forget what is ahead. So many things can go wrong and often do in our lives. The Bible instructs us to forget what is behind us and move on to what is ahead. Perhaps you have been hurt by others in the past. It is time to forgive and move on to what is ahead. Maybe you are struggling with sin in your past that continually eats away at your soul. Its time to ask for forgiveness, forgive yourself and move on to what is ahead. There are so many things that hinder us and get us down along this road of life. Why? Many of us have taken our eyes off the goal and forgot why we were even running. If you have ever watched a race you can observe several things:
1. A runner never looks behind him because it slows him down.
2. A runner is always racing as fast as he can to win.
3. A runner is not alone in the race.
4. There is always a start and always a finish.
Remember that you are in the race everyday of your life striving to finish and finish well. As we run this race of life remember that there is a goal. That goal is eternity with Jesus Christ. Everyday you wake try to picture in your mind a race that you are running. See the finish line and see Jesus cheering for you to finish. He is telling you not to give up, but keep going. Keep going so you can win the prize and race right into eternity with Jesus Christ our Lord!
