Psalm 1:1-3

1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither,  and they prosper in all they do.

The word meditate means to reflect upon, ponder or contemplate.  In our culture today when we mention the word meditate many of us think about some kind of mysticism, or burning incense and humming to ourselves.  This is not what it means to meditate.  It simply means that we should think about about God’s instructions for our lives.  This exact word is also found in Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  We should remember God’s word, contemplate on it and live our lives by it.  When you are alone or laying in bed reflect on God’s word.  Try memorizing your favorite verse and reflect upon its meaning and how it can be applied to your life.

Do you meditate on God’s word?  Start today with Psalm 1 and read it several times and start memorizing it.  How blessed you will be when you delight in God’s word.
