Have you ever been anxious about something? Do you lay awake at nights anxiously wondering how you are going to make it another day? Is life crashing in around you?
I have good news for you that you might not want to hear. Rejoice! Say WHAT? Rejoice that’s what! When I’m down and losing hope, the last thing I ever think of doing is rejoicing. So many countless hours I have worried about how I will pay the next bill, or how I will pay the rent, or what is the doctor is going to tell me. I have literately made myself sick stressing out over circumstances that I have no control over. If you are anxious, filled with worry and fear, here is what you can learn from God’s word:
As believers we have the greatest reason for rejoicing. The Lord is near, and we can rejoice knowing that one day we will rest in the arms of the Savior Jesus Christ. Remember this comforting thought. As a follower of Jesus Christ, this life will be the worst thing we ever experience.
Tell God about it.
Have you ever made a new friend, or perhaps found the love of your life? Remember what its like to share everything with your friend or spouse? When I met my wife we would text and talk for hours. There is an excitement to share my life with her. Why? Because I love her and want to share everything with her. It is called a relationship, and it is what God desires to have with each one of us. God loves you and wants to hear about your life, desires, and problems. God wants you to ask for His help. Do you know what happens when we decide to rejoice, stop being anxious, and present our request to God? He will guard our hearts and minds in Jesus Christ.
Think on the good.
Lastly think about the good. It is so easy to be Negative Nancy or Debbie Downer when your thinking about all the negative things in life. That is why God tells us to focus on the pure and what is right. Start focusing on the good now and it will change how you look at your life. Focus on the good and it will overcome the bad every time. The next time you are laying in bed and your mind starts to wonder and you feel that anxiousness filling your heart. Stop it! Start thinking of every good thing in your life. If you need some direction, start by thinking about your salvation. Think about what it will be like to see Jesus one day. Think about your favorite scripture or praise song. I encourage you to pick out a Psalm and memorize it and say it to yourself every night.
God is with you.
Remember that no matter what God is with you. Not just any God. The one true God that breathed life into your body. The God of peace. Peace can only come through God who is the very peace that we long for.
God forgive me for not trusting you completely in every aspect of my life. Please take away my anxious thoughts, the worry and fear, and guard my heart and mind in Jesus Christ. I thank you for hearing me and giving me a peace that surpasses all understanding.
