Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.
Have you ever got a gift from someone that was just absolutely hideous? One Christmas I got a shirt that was 3 sizes to big and it was the ugliest thing I have ever seen. I remember looking at it thinking does this person even know me? Have you ever been given a gift like that? Perhaps you were the one who gave a gift with little thought or care for who it was for.
In this story of Cain and Able many have questioned why Cain’s offering was rejected. The reason that Cain’s offering was rejected is found in Hebrews 11:4. It tells us that “by faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.”
When you give to God, whether it is money, time, work or helping others in need. What is your attitude when you give to God? Do you give God your very best? When you put money in an offering do you hold back, or wish you hadn’t given so much? When you are helping others, do you have a poor attitude? If so, keep your money, keep your time, and don’t help others! If you give to God with a poor attitude and without faith your offering is worthless. Give to God your very best! Give with all your heart! Give with faith! In doing so you will be truly blessed because God has accepted your offering.
My Father forgive me when I have given with the wrong attitude, for giving my second and third best. God I commit to giving you my very best in all I do. May I be in favor with you and walk in obedience to your Word. Thank you God for your wonderful forgiveness and the blessings you have given me. Amen
