Hebrews 2:12-13
12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. 15 As has just been said:    “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

When I was a child my parents watched me closely, mostly because I was doing something bad.  On one occasion I asked my mother if I could go outside and play.  She told me I could go play after I cleaned my room.  I enjoyed cleaning my room like I enjoyed picking up dog poop in the yard.  Instead of cleaning my room I decided it could wait and I headed out the door to go play.  My mother, being a woman that few things got past saw me running for the door.  She knew that I had not cleaned my room, and just as I was at the door my mother yelled, “if you take one more step I’m going to spank you!”  I can remember looking straight back at my mother, I picked my foot up and stuck it right out the door.  Little did I know that my mother had a super power.  She had the power of flying, because she literately flew across the room and snatched me up like Lion catching its prey.  That day I received a good spanking although I don’t ever remember a spanking being good.

Many times God is saying to us, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR MY VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEART…”  So many of us look right at God, shake our fist at His word and walk out the door ignoring his commands.  Do you realize every time you ignore God’s word and disobey Him you are hardening your heart?  This verse is sending a warning  to be-careful that there is “no evil in you.”  Why?  Sin will mislead you every time and will lead you down a long road of hurt and regret.  What are we to do then?  “Encourage one another day after day…and hold fast.”  When was the last time you encouraged a believer?  When was the last time you heard and encouraging word from a believer?  Today, call or text someone and give them an encouraging word.  Do this everyday, because in doing so you are obeying God’s word and helping believers avoid the “deceitfulness of sin.”   Don’t ignore God!  Listen to his word, encourage others and hold fast!
