I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. Galatians 2:20
Crucifixion was a sickening and cruel form of punishment. It wasn’t just a penalty of death but suffering as well. It was a way to torture and humiliate a person in every way before they ultimately died. Do you know what it means to be crucified? It means you must die to yourself every day. It means that following Christ is to suffer and die to self each day. To follow Christ is to suffer. As a Christian it is not about grabbing a hold of life but its about letting go. Jesus said, “for whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” This life is not about how we should live, but how we die. Yes it is important to live a godly and holy life seeking to please the Lord, but I’m talking about dyeing to yourself everyday. It is so easy to give into the things of this world and please ourselves. However it is difficult to resist the world and say NO, I’m not going to compromise my relationship with God for temporary pleasure.
Have you been crucified with Christ? If you have did you know that Christ is living inside you you? If you are feeling down and defeated and have no strength to continue, remember that you don’t have to. With Christ living in you it is His strength that will carry you. It is resurrection power of Jesus living in you. If you are ready to give up, give up self so Christ may rule within you. At the end of the day ask yourself not how you lived today. Ask yourself how did I die to myself today and allow Christ to live in me and through me.
